You like me...you like me. Sally Field-1985 Oscars

Good news!  My blog just got listed on Technorati.  Whew.  It involved an approval process, but I got accepted.  Maybe it's not that big of a deal, but I was led to believe it is the largest blog directory. Maybe that's why it was easier to get listed.  At any rate, I'm in.

Now, I just have to amp up my content and see if I can attract some readers.  By the way, I also have RSS Feed available for this blog so that you can watch for updates, since I'm not currently blogging everyday.

Vancouver 2010

I readily admit I am usually sports averse (except for baseball).  But, when it comes to the Winter Olympics, I'm a FANatic!!   I've watched most of the events this year.  Wow.  With the technology available to us today, the coverage is extremely impressive. I've been around long enough to remember how it used to be before the Internet, HD and digital—what a difference. I downloaded the Microsoft Silverlight, just to check it out, and it does seem to enhance the quality of video—more like 3-D. Very cool.

The hockey grudge match between USA and Canada ended with an unexpected winner. Yikes. The police were preparing for trouble, just in case. But the pairings for the metal events are still to be decided and the games played, so, more suspense to come.

That crazy biathlon event is just too boring (maybe not as boring as curling) and, I know it's been an Olympic event since 1960; but I don't think most viewers are that interested. It doesn't hold my attention. Oh well....

Sorry to end on a downer, but how nice for us that we still get to enjoy some good, clean fun while our troops are dying for democracy in Afganistan. It doesn't seem right and it makes me very sad. Peace be with them.

Mmmmmm......Guacamole

I love avocadoes and I usually turn them into guacamole.  I eat it with UTZ corn chips that don't have any trans fats or anything bad, so, it's not quite as bad junk food.

Here is my recipe:

One avocado mashed with a fork, so it is still chunky
One small-med. vine ripened tomato, chopped
Approx. 2 T chopped red or Vidalia (sweet) onion
1 tsp fresh lime or lemon juice
1 tsp sour cream (don't over do it, just enough to make it creamy)
Salt (not too much) and pepper to suit your taste.
You can add some hot sauce or chopped jalapeños, if you like it hot.
And that's it!!

It should look something like this:

The All-inclusive Holiday

When I was a kid, Washington's Birthday was a holiday that was always celebrated on his actual birthday—February 22.  It was a government holiday also and we DID get out of school, if it coincided with a weekday.

My birthday is also on February 22, so, it was particularly annoying to me when they invented "President's Day."

Hey--who's that guy?

On a Lighter Note

I've been whining a lot lately, so I'm going to quit.

I surprised myself on Sunday by actually taking an interest in the Super Bowl this year. I usually just watch for the commercials, and pay very little attention to the actual game.  But, two teams who are easy to like and very evenly matched, made for an unpredictable outcome.

I grew up in the Midwest, about a 45 minute drive from Indianapolis.  So naturally, I have a soft spot for the Colts. But after everything that New Orleans has been through in the past few years—they were actually my sentimental favorites.  A good game was played by all, the commercials were fairly entertaining, and with only a few "time outs" the game didn't drag on endlessly.  And, it kept me away from eBay, so I didn't buy anything.  Hooray.  That was the biggest victory of the weekend.

The Power of eBay

Inevitably, while shopping on eBay for something that you actually need—you will fall into a very dark hole—full of things that you DON'T need, but you can't live without; and you can't come back to the light of day until you buy something!!

Lately, I've been buying buttons, but I also collect costume jewelry and beyond that, sterling and sterling marcasite.  I have a variety of earrings, rings, brooches, etc. and some of my pieces have ebony stones.  I also like flower-shaped things and especially five-pointed star-shaped things.

Now I ask you—how could I possibly say no to this beauty?  OMG!!

Home

♫ Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Home, home on the range.............. ♫

Anyone who's come to the City from somewhere else will tell you—it's a love/hate relationship.  You hate almost everything about living here, but when you finally escape for a well-deserved vacation, you miss it so terribly, you can hardly wait to get back.  The people are different here and the attitude is different.  There's no place like it.

I've accepted the struggles for some reason, because it seems like such a privilege to be able to live here—but maybe that's what they want us to think.

Who knows.......

I'm still trying to decide.
